How a Wolf range reports a fault
A Wolf range is diagnosed on two fronts — the cooktop and the oven control. On Dual Fuel (DF) and Induction (IR) ranges the electric oven board reports genuine numeric and text codes, so a stalled bake or a stuck self-clean shows a code rather than failing silently. On the all-gas GR oven and on every gas surface burner there is no code, so those faults are read by symptom. The code set below applies to the electric ovens on DF and IR builds.
The codes you will see
01 is a door-lock malfunction — the lock not sensed within 60 seconds, most common right after a self-clean cycle. 02 is an over-temperature trip (around 630°F unlocked or 950°F locked). 03 is an open RTD oven sensor and 04 a shorted RTD sensor — the temperature probe the oven uses to hold a setpoint. 0E is a shorted or stuck power relay on the board. Alongside the numbers, Wolf shows text faults: PF for a power failure or an oven too hot for the selected mode, COMM ERR for lost communication with the oven controller, COOL FAN for a cooling-fan failure, LOWER RELAY for a lower-oven relay feedback fault, and FUSES WRONG for an incorrect controller configuration.
The gas side: read by symptom
The GR all-gas oven and the gas surface burners on every range carry no code. A burner that clicks continuously often has moisture in the igniter well — let it dry for 24 to 48 hours — or clogged ports, a fouled spark module or a failed igniter. A gas oven that will not heat usually points at the oven igniter, and a torn door gasket shows as lost heat. These are diagnosed by what you observe, not by a code.
What to check, and when to call
For an 01 after self-clean, let the oven cool fully and power-cycle at the breaker for 30 to 60 seconds. For a PF, the same reset often clears a one-off power event. A recurring 01, an 02 over-temp, an open or shorted RTD (03/04), a 0E relay fault, a COOL FAN or LOWER RELAY message, or any gas burner that smells of gas with the knob off needs an experienced, independent technician with the correct part.
