How a Wolf appliance reports a problem
Wolf cooking appliances differ sharply in how much they tell you, and knowing which of the six categories you own is the first step to an accurate repair. Electric-oven ranges and every wall oven carry a genuine error-code set; induction and electric cooktops surface a thin set of numeric codes; and gas surfaces, rangetops, microwaves and range hoods have no consumer code table at all, so they are diagnosed from symptoms. Reading the right signal points an experienced technician at a specific part — a sensor, a relay, the door lock or the control board — while a symptom points at the burner, the igniter, the gas supply, the filter or a mode left running. Range oven codes (Dual Fuel and Induction)
On a Wolf Dual Fuel (DF) or Induction (IR) range, the electric oven control reports real codes. 01 is a door-lock malfunction (the lock not sensed within 60 seconds — common after a self-clean cycle); 02 is an over-temperature trip; 03 is an open RTD oven sensor and 04 a shorted one; and 0E is a shorted or stuck power relay. Text problems round out the set — PF for a power failure or an oven too hot for the selected mode, COMM ERR for lost communication with the oven controller, COOL FAN for a cooling-fan failure, and LOWER RELAY for a lower-oven relay feedback problem. Wall oven codes (three separate schemes)
Wolf wall ovens are the most code-rich Wolf appliances, and they use three schemes that must never be mixed. The legacy E Series reports text phrases plus the F1 door-lock failure — for example “RTD Open”, “Over Temp”, “No Bake element detect” or a keypad communication error. The current M Series uses four-digit numeric codes where the first digit groups the problem — 0021/0022 a bake relay, 0821/0822 the lock relay, 3121–3222 the RTD, 5021/5121 over-temperature — alongside on-screen messages such as “Touch Pad Sensor failure”. Cooktop codes (induction and electric)
Wolf induction (CI) and electric-radiant (CE) cooktops surface a thin set of stored codes. On induction, 3 means liquid or cookware over the controls, E4 an implausible configuration, E6 an electrical or power-supply issue (also Wolf’s no/wrong-pan signal — use flat magnetic cookware), E8 a fan error and E22 a stuck key. On electric radiant, 22 is a stuck key, E5 a relay failure, E6 a power-supply problem, E8 a fan error and U400 an over-voltage condition. The categories diagnosed by symptom
Three Wolf categories carry no error codes and are read entirely from behavior. The SRT rangetop is a gas surface controlled by mechanical knobs and spark ignition with no display, so a burner that will not light, clicks continuously without sparking or burns yellow is the diagnostic itself — and because all burners share one spark module, continuous clicking on every burner points there. Microwaves show status words rather than codes — DEMO (showroom mode, which disables heating and is the most common reason a new install “won’t heat”), PF, LOCK and END. Range hoods are symptom-led too; the only display text on the V-Series is the filter-clean reminder FG (vented) or FC (recirculating) after about 100 hours — a maintenance prompt, not a problem, and there is no F6. When to reset and when to call
For many problems the homeowner step is the same: power-cycle the appliance — switch the breaker off for 30 to 60 seconds — and watch the panel. A post-self-clean door-lock code, a microwave in demo mode, a filter-clean reminder or a one-off alarm usually clears or resolves with simple maintenance. A persistent RTD sensor or relay failure, a stuck door lock, a cooling-fan failure, a recurring over-temperature trip, or a gas burner that will not light or smells of gas with the knob off calls for an experienced technician with the correct parts.
