How a Wolf cooktop reports a fault
A Wolf cooktop is read three ways depending on its technology. Induction (CI) and electric-radiant (CE) surfaces surface a thin set of stored numeric codes, so a power or sensor fault shows a code. Sealed-gas (CG) cooktops and legacy CT gas builds have no display and are diagnosed by symptom, like any Wolf gas burner. The first thing a technician confirms is which technology you own, because the parts and the diagnostics are entirely different.
Induction (CI) codes
On a Wolf induction cooktop, 3 means liquid or cookware sitting over the controls (wipe and clear it); E4 is an implausible configuration; E6 (also shown as 6) is an electrical or power-supply issue and is also Wolf’s no/wrong-pan signal — use flat, magnetic cookware; E8 is a fan error; E22 is a stuck key; and E47 (or 47) is a LIN communication fault. Codes such as 20, E7 and E9 are reset-only states rather than hardware faults.
Electric-radiant (CE) and legacy CT codes
On a Wolf electric-radiant cooktop, 22 is a stuck key, 39 a controller-options fault, 47 a LIN communication fault, E5 a relay fault, E6 a power-supply fault, E8 a fan error, EA a controller fault and U400 an over-voltage condition. The legacy framed CT series uses its own numbering — CT induction codes such as E1, E3/E4 and E31, and CT electric codes such as E01, E02 and E18 — while a CT gas unit is read by symptom.
The gas side, and when to call
A Wolf sealed-gas (CG) cooktop has no code. A burner that clicks without igniting usually has a dirty igniter or clogged ports, moisture, or an oversized pan; a dead burner with the others working points at that burner’s igniter or switch. For the induction and electric codes, a reset-only state often clears with a breaker power-cycle; a persistent fan, relay, power-supply or LIN-communication code, or a cracked glass top, needs an experienced technician with the correct part.
